About the CLCP The State of Georgia launched the Certified Literacy Community Program (CLCP) in 1990 as a means of addressing adult literacy rates across the state. Improved literacy rates help the state attract new businesses -- and jobs – thereby increasing self-sufficiency among all residents. To qualify as a participant in the CLCP program, a community is required to set a goal of reducing its functional illiteracy rate by 50% within ten years. Each CLCP member organization is responsible for securing local community support and sources of funding.
In 2005, Forsyth County joined the Certified Literate Community Program. Two non-profit literacy organizations, Forsyth County Advocates for Literacy and Promoters of Adult Literacy, were incorporated into the Forsyth County CLCP (Literacy Forsyth) to form the county’s sole adult literacy non-profit. By mobilizing all of Forsyth’s major resources (i.e. local governments, businesses, school system, court system, churches, and the community), Forsyth County hopes to achieve the status of Certified Literate Community by 2015.
The Forsyth County CLCP is a 501 c 3 non-profit corporation and a 2009 United Way Partner Agency. |
